We’ve had to remove our current member forums as too many spammers are attacking it and I don’t have the time to moderate every post… will see what we can do to replace them with a better WordPress integrated forum in future.

The Sony launchpad runs fine and updates the game.  When play is clicked the game does launch with music and background image – though immediately crashes after a few seconds.

Wine Windows Version: XP

I tried the replacement d3dx9_36.dll override as suggested by others though no change

This game sounds very close to being playable – so if you can help with this game PLEASE COMMENT :)

RUNNING THE GAME:
Rose Online launches fine and the client downloads the latest updates without issue.

Once in the game-world everything appeared to be working fine. I played for around 20 minutes without issues.

BETA: Steam for Linux

On December 7, 2012, in news, by Necron99

I just received notification I’m in on the expanded external beta for the Steam for Linux client :D

Just downloaded the .deb installer which launches the Ubuntu Software Centre and then asks to launch Steam to complete the installation.

A Steam launcher icon is added to the desktop – I ended up with 2 as I have my WINE steam icon there – so I renamed one to Steam Linux

Once launched the 111MB update download starts

Once completed the familiar add account / existing account screen pops up

Once logged in the subscriber agreement shows as usual and Steam also detected my outdated Nvidia proprietary graphics driver.

So I dutifully updated my drivers, installing the latest experimental 310 drivers for NVIDIA

Once done and rebooted + re-launched: Steam was up and running perfectly with tray icon, and start menu launchers at the ready Excellent!

Some of you may notice that from here I’m running the Cinnamon desktop – I’m just not a fan of Unity / Gnome…

So once up and running I took a look around, and pleasantly found that 23 of my games that have native Linux versions were found + were ready to be installed = no more WINE for these games :D

There is a new Linux tab in the the Steam Store.  The store is fairly well stocked with Linux games both Free (a la TF2) and paid… so I’m off now to do some downloading and will be back to post more as soon as I get a chance.

Of course non-native Linux games can’t be installed – so it’s the Wine installation of Steam as usual for those.

It would suffice to say that I’m extremely happy to see the Beta version being so complete and excited to see what’s in store for the future of Linux gaming.
