Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel

On September 22, 2010, in playable games, by Necron99

STATUS: playable Steam Store Page: click here
Wine Version: 1.3.6
Windowed: no Full-screen: yes

Being on a roll with Fallout 1 and 2 both being playable, I went ahead and booted up Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel with high hopes…

RUNNING THE GAME:
Launching the game from Steam brought up the Microsoft Direct X installer… after a 2-3 minute wait the GameSpy installer launched… I installed GameSpy and that all went ok.  Then the screen went black… and stayed black for some time. I waited… and with a click of the mouse Fallout Tactics was running!

After the intro movies were done playing I started a new game. Once I had my team together it was out into the wasteland to rescue some villagers…

Graphics are much better than in Fallout 1 and 2 and there was no noticeable lag as before… I did experience a little artifacting with the UI – though nothing major. Again, probably the 2D ATI drivers…

ISSUES:
When exiting the game from the main game screen Linux freezes and becomes unresponsive. A hard reboot is required…

NOT TESTED:
I haven’t tested GameSpy or multiplayer yet, and will update as soon as I get a chance.

Hi there, thanx for the feedback! And glad you can actually play! I’m having some problems though.. I’m running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat and Wine 1.2.1, The install was a bit dodge but I finally got it right, but I get “hertz” error on running the game after the auto run screen, after much dlibiration I deactivated my proprietary Nvidia driver (173.something) and now it runs, but the game runs VERY VERY slow, I have to wait like 5-7 mins to load and 3-4 for a quicksave (Imagine my frustration with random encounters in the wasteland lol) I read on a post you should edit your wine .conf file and change some values, but the later versions of (mine) does not show the .conf file, ANY IDEAS?? I want to play sooooo badly but its just not possible with the slow gameplay (and some other glitches) As soon as I have everything fixed I’ll post a full report and guide, but I actually need it to work before before I can give advice to others lol.
