Advanced customisable tower defense game where you can play as either defender or attacker. You can also make your own maps! This just might be one of the best tower defense games out at the moment.

WINE SETTINGS:
Winetricks d3dx9 required. Windows version in winecfg set as Windows XP

RUNNING THE GAME:
The game launched and ran flawlessly for me.

Problems noted:
None

This is a fun indie arcade style shooter = great for wasting a few minutes here and there. Addictive gameplay + chip tunage!

WINE SETTINGS:
No overrides were necessary – set as Windows XP

RUNNING THE GAME:
I ran the game in both full-screen and windowed mode. Some small lag spikes – though still very playable.

Problems noted:
Mission text and some text in the game is not displayed… I haven’t tried to many things to fix this yet, but doesn’t impact too much on the game. You simply don’t know the ship type, difficulty, and ultimate goal of the level until you actually enter the final level area!  If playing on anything else but Easy you also can’t see the mission count down timer – which just makes the game harder… but still very fun!

I do have a high end computer, so I was able to run the game on “High” with no difficulty. I do presume that as long as you had a decent computer, the game would run fine. The game ran very smoothly, I was actually surprised how well it worked.

WINE SETTINGS:
No overrides were necessary – set as Windows 7

RUNNING THE GAME:
I had graphics set to the “High” preset. Game ran completely fine with no noticeable problems. Multiplayer also ran completely fine.

Problems noted:
None

Co-Op Special Ops, inviting friends to lobbies, voice chat.

Works like a charm. A very good game, and if you haven’t played it, I strongly recommend it.

WINE SETTINGS:
Windows XP + d3dx9, though I don’t think it’s needed

RUNNING THE GAME:
Running in a virtual desktop is not necessary, but helps prevent the desktop configuration from looking weird.

Problems noted:
Sound dies, but this can be solved by running emulated sound. Crashes occasionally, but I don’t think this is specific to wine.

WINE SETTINGS:
Windows XP – Installed Tine 2 into clean wineprefix using ‘winetricks steam’

GAME SETTINGS:
I set anti-alias to medium and set other graphical settings on very high without issues.

RUNNING THE GAME:
Trine 2 installed Microsoft Direct X and ran very well with no major issues

Problems noted:
I noticed the cursor control accuracy was a little off and jerky – though posed no major issue when playing under Linux. Some settings tweaks may make the game run better.

Not tested:
Online / Local Co-op / 3D mode

Been awhile…

On April 14, 2012, in news, by Necron99

Hi all – it’s been awhile since I’ve been able to add more games to the site = been flat out with work and family holidays!

I have quite a few user submitted games to add, about 12 or so – and will be adding them ASAP.

I’ve also changed the specs of my Linux gaming PC as my main work machine is now on RAID 0 and for some reason Linux doesn’t want to install or recognise the array.

Will update the testing system specs as well.

Do keep submitting working Steam games as I will eventually get to adding them!

Until then, have fun and game on!

Dear Esther

This is a Source Engine game so it should, and does, run well on Linux.  Dear Esther is a casual adventure game, and it looks and sounds absolutely brilliant! The more I play this game the more I appreciate the concept and raw talent infused into this release. The music is reminiscent of Arcanum, and suits the scenery very well. Of course this type of game is not for everyone, but if you like to read books and like the idea of an interactive movie – give this one a go.

The only drawback so far is the world is not that interactive – 5 minutes into the game and I already miss being able to jump and interact with objects – even if it’s simply to chuck a can of paint over a cliff. I can understand, given this is an “interactive story”, there needs to be some limitations put on the player… and I’m sure the developer has good reasons for this… but still = I want to be able to pick up and chuck stuff around if I feel like it…

Another little issue I had with this game is the lack of the ability to save / load while in a “Chapter”. This makes for a lot of replaying of the same game areas if you don’t have the time to complete a whole chapter before quiting. The saving graces here are the “random elements” that appear in each chapter – adding variety to “re-reading / re-playing the chapter”. No doubt this was the intention of the creator in leaving out the save / load functions… as re-playing of chapters seems a little bit necessary to become more acquainted with the narrative and story itself.

That said, I haven’t yet played out the whole game, though can say the writing is cool and well voice read so far…

WINE SETTINGS:
Windows XP – no library overrides are needed to launch and play Dear Esther

GAME SETTINGS:
I ran the game full-screen – with all game settings on high including anti-aliasing turned on. I did turn down some settings like AA and texture size in the end – but if you have a better system than mine you shouldn’t have too much of a problem.

RUNNING THE GAME:
Dear Esther launches and plays well on my system – with only some frame stuttering when the game needs to load new areas.

This is a classic old-school platformer that was way ahead of it’s time in terms of game-play.  It takes a little getting used to – and your patience will be rewarded. For $2.50 you can’t go wrong!

WINE SETTINGS:
Windows XP – no library overrides were required to play Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus.

GAME SETTINGS:
I ran the game full-screen – though suggest a Virtual Desktop as the graphics look better when smaller.

RUNNING THE GAME:
The game plays fine and haven’t noticed any problems at all.
