WINE SETTINGS:
Windows XP – no library overrides were required to run GTAIV. NOTE: you should install this in it’s own WinePrefix as after I installed Episodes from Vice City on the same prefix the game refused to let me play in off-line mode and would not authenticate for multi-player.
GAME SETTINGS:
You will need to turn off Games for Windows Live by copying this xlive.dll into the Steam GTAIV folder – [DOWNLOAD]
RUNNING THE GAME:
GTA4 runs ok and is playable – though you may need to turn down some graphics settings as the framerates are pretty bad. With everything on High on my GTX 460 the game benchmark was 16FPS

WINE SETTINGS:
Windows XP – no library overrides required to play the game.
GAME SETTINGS:
I ran Tomb Raider: Legend at full-screen 1920×180 with all effects + Anti-Aliasing turned on
RUNNING THE GAME:
The game appears to run fine – with some minor issues such as a few stutters when loading cut-scenes etc.
OTHER PROBLEMS NOTED:
- stuttering during cut-scene movies
- graphics artifacting – though turning on Anti-Aliasing fixed this problem for me

Wine Windows Version: Windows XP
WINE Library Overrides/ Winetricks Present: Winetricks: *gameoverlayrender (disabled)
Game configuration notes:
Trees have a huge frame-rate hit. Turn forest settings to “off”
Not tested: Multiplayer
Problems noted:
DirectX10.1 doesn’t work.
I have recently started using the Cinnamon desktop on top of Mint Linux 12 and can say that I’m impressed and games seem to be running just as well, if not better on Cinnamon.

While the Steam Morrowind version will run on Linux, using the Morrowind Graphics Extender and installed graphics mods is a definite must to get updated graphics…
Unfortunately I found it impossible to install and run. All research on-line also shows it is not possible to run MGE under Wine…

IMPORTANT: this game uses EA’s on-line activation process which may limit the number of installs of this game. Wine updates cause this activation to repeat itself and will reduce the number of installs allowed. EA DRM SUCKS BALLZ! I paid for this game and should be able to install it anywhere I want as many times as I want…
Anyhoo = I installed Steam + Alice: Madness Returns in it’s own clean wineprefix using “winetricks steam” from the terminal
Close Steam then run
winetricks vcrun6
winetricks vcrun2005
winetricks xact
In winecfg in Steam prefix set Windows version to Windows 7 + delete any dll overrides except disabled steam overlay renderer.
If you don’t delete the DLL overrides you will not have sound once in the game.
Launch Steam and install the game. The game should launch as normal after trying to install the usual .Net packages…
While the gameplay is standard console / on rails – this game is worth it for the visuals alone! The story is pretty wicked too…
As of 1.3.36 it appears moving Steam windows around on the desktop works properly. Steam Windows on X desktop no longer tend to jump around… as much ;)

I installed Steam + Skyrim in it’s own clean wineprefix using “winetricks steam” from the terminal
Close Steam then run
winetricks xact
winetricks vcrun2008
winetricks d3dx9_42
These should be run in the new Steam wineprefix – to do this run winetricks – then select the Steam wineprefix – then run the terminal (debugging) then run the above commands.
I then launched Steam and installed the game as per normal.
On first launch the game installs 3 items – and froze up on the last .Net – so I just cancelled it and ran the game again. It again tried to install .Net though the game launcher still came up…
I had to set in Options Anti-aliasing to NONE or video didn’t work for me.
Skyrim runs – though at reduced framerates for me… it may just be my graphics card.
Windows Version: Windows XP (I have PulseAudio + ALSA so had to use XP to get sound)
WINE Library Overrides/ Winetricks Present:
xact / vcrun2008 / d3dx9_42
Registry Tweaks to improve framerates (not everyone will need this = again probably my graphics card)
videomemorysize=1024
glsl=disabled
Skyrim.ini Tweaks I used (from Reddit):
Disable the smooth mouse:
- Go to Steam Directory > steamapps > common > skyrim > Skyrim
- Backup SkyrimPrefs.ini
- Change bMouseAcceleration=1 to bMouseAcceleration=0
Fix the vsync / laggy mouse problem
- Go to Steam Directory > steamapps > common > skyrim > Skyrim
- Backup SkyrimPrefs.ini
- Under [Display] add iPresentInterval=0
