Works Still Ahead

With Linux gaming picking up – and a lot of games coming out compatible with Linux we are working on a new plan for the site to incorporate both tweaks / compatibility tests and Linux game reviews and support discussions…

Site Re-Development

On August 15, 2014, in news, by support

I am working on rebuilding as the current site needs better search / data management… Members will be able to submit content / ask for help much easier as member profiles will include what system specs they have, linux flavour etc. Even though Steam has Linux games now there are a lot of Steam games that will never be ported to Linux…

Back from holidays

On January 19, 2013, in news, by admin

I’m finally back from my long overdue holiday from work and all thing’s I.T. – fully recharged and ready for 2013.  Have quite a few games to add and older tests to update… Hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year!

[UPDATE: Sept 2013]
Well – work has taken up all my time – though I now have some site supporters who are taking care of adding new submissions to the site for me. Keep those submissions coming in, even though there is a Steam client for Linux, there are always going to be Windows games available on Steam that will need testing on Linux.

Forums Removed

On December 15, 2012, in news, by admin

We’ve had to remove our current member forums as too many spammers are attacking it and I don’t have the time to moderate every post… will see what we can do to replace them with a better WordPress integrated forum in future.

BETA: Steam for Linux

On December 7, 2012, in news, by Necron99

I just received notification I’m in on the expanded external beta for the Steam for Linux client :D

Just downloaded the .deb installer which launches the Ubuntu Software Centre and then asks to launch Steam to complete the installation.

A Steam launcher icon is added to the desktop – I ended up with 2 as I have my WINE steam icon there – so I renamed one to Steam Linux

Once launched the 111MB update download starts

Once completed the familiar add account / existing account screen pops up

Once logged in the subscriber agreement shows as usual and Steam also detected my outdated Nvidia proprietary graphics driver.

So I dutifully updated my drivers, installing the latest experimental 310 drivers for NVIDIA

Once done and rebooted + re-launched: Steam was up and running perfectly with tray icon, and start menu launchers at the ready Excellent!
Some of you may notice that from here I’m running the Cinnamon desktop – I’m just not a fan of Unity / Gnome…
So once up and running I took a look around, and pleasantly found that 23 of my games that have native Linux versions were found + were ready to be installed = no more WINE for these games :D
There is a new Linux tab in the the Steam Store.  The store is fairly well stocked with Linux games both Free (a la TF2) and paid… so I’m off now to do some downloading and will be back to post more as soon as I get a chance.
Of course non-native Linux games can’t be installed – so it’s the Wine installation of Steam as usual for those.
It would suffice to say that I’m extremely happy to see the Beta version being so complete and excited to see what’s in store for the future of Linux gaming.

Been awhile…

On April 14, 2012, in news, by Necron99

Hi all – it’s been awhile since I’ve been able to add more games to the site = been flat out with work and family holidays!

I have quite a few user submitted games to add, about 12 or so – and will be adding them ASAP.

I’ve also changed the specs of my Linux gaming PC as my main work machine is now on RAID 0 and for some reason Linux doesn’t want to install or recognise the array.

Will update the testing system specs as well.

Do keep submitting working Steam games as I will eventually get to adding them!

Until then, have fun and game on!

Mint Linux 12 + Cinnamon Desktop

On February 18, 2012, in news, technical stuff, by Necron99

I have recently started using the Cinnamon desktop on top of Mint Linux 12 and can say that I’m impressed and games seem to be running just as well, if not better on Cinnamon.

Wine Update Fixes Jumpy Steam Windows

On January 14, 2012, in news, by Necron99

As of 1.3.36 it appears moving Steam windows around on the desktop works properly.  Steam Windows on X desktop no longer tend to jump around… as much ;)
